What is Edmund Rice Camps?

Edmund Rice Camps NSW is a not-for-profit organisation, providing recreational camps for disadvantaged children aged 5 - 15 years. We have been running our camps in Sydney for 30 years. We work on a 1:1 ratio of volunteers to children, which means that every child is provided with a high level of support, mentorship and positive role modelling.

Our volunteers are young adults, often in high school or studying at university. We are lucky to have a wonderful group of experienced volunteers who return to camp year after year. Volunteers are provided with Child Protection training and are given opportunities to learn more about how to support disadvantaged children. A member of Edmund Rice Camps NSW staff is present at every camp program.

A typical camp includes a combination of teamwork activities, crafts, sports and excursions, to encourage children to engage with others, develop relationships and build self-confidence.

Our aim is to build resilience in children, by supporting them to manage their own behaviours and encouraging them to make positive decisions. This helps to break the cycle of disadvantage, and enables them to become healthy and successful adults.

The first Tuross Head Camp in 2018

In July of 2018, we were absolutely thrilled to go to Tuross Head and support a new community of wonderful families with our first South Coast camp! Our Camp looked a little like this:

  • 15 volunteers and 1 staff member.

  • 15 children aged 12 - 15 years old.

  • Kids were present from Monday afternoon through to Friday morning.

  • We enjoyed sports, craft and team building challenges.

  • We explored the surrounding beaches and bush walks.

  • An offsite day at the botanical gardens was a huge hit!

The children and volunteers all had such a fantastic time and were constantly asking about the next time we could possibly get back together!

2019 Tuross Head Camp

Who: Submit your referrals for disadvantaged children aged 10 - 15 years old. We only have positions for 15 children, so please be aware that your application may have to be placed on a waiting list.

Where: 'The Pines', 36 Craddock Road, Tuross Head NSW.

Cost: $150 per child. Agencies making payment are not eligible for discount. If payment falls to families, the cost must be discussed with them prior to submitting the referral, and clearly noted on the form.
